Why not me?

“Why not me?”- why is it, only she gets to wear new clothes? And I be only wearing strands?- asked a stormed innocent boy. “She is getting married and we have only few to spend, understand my child,” said his mother.

Tucked with a baby goat under his arm, he stormed out of the hut with hot streaming tears ,rolling down his cheeks.

On the way-His ears picked up a few challenging words – “Anyone who can hit a mango with just three stones gets a reward “announced an old man. The boy picked up the challenge and won it. His tears dried up to paint a smile on his face. He dusted off his palms and combed his hair with his spit.

“Here you go-take your reward,” said the old man. The boy opened it with just one rip, a Banyan. He rushed, to show it to his family. “Now I also have something new to wear”, said the boy to himself.

The day arrived – where Joy, laughter, food soaked the air above. He stepped out wearing his best, but was met with laughter and stare. His joy suddenly transitioned into sorrow. Then, his mother rushed to him, hugged him and whispered slowly- “You wear it beneath the cloth and not above my child”, she said softly.

“But That’s the only best I have!” the boy said innocently.
